"Everyday Ethical AI"

A Guide For Families & Small Businesses

Cover of Everyday Ethical AI book

Many people worldwide are facing a world dramatically changed by artificial intelligence systems, in good ways and bad. And most people who use AI tools want to do it responsibly and effectively.

If you're among them, perhaps you're wondering why some people say that most current AI tools (especially generative AI) weren't developed ethically or responsibly; why it matters; and what you can do.

Karen wrote two acclaimed articles in March 2025 that covered the basics of what you need to know about ethical AI and how to choose AI tools. She then expanded the articles into a book (ebook and print), now published by Six Peas Press and available on Amazon. See the reviews and the "Everyday Ethical AI" book page for links to the articles and more information on the book.

"She Writes AI Everywhere book series"

How Women Are Changing The World With Artificial Intelligence

Cover of AI Everywhere, Volume 1 book

Women ARE using AI -- or not -- worldwide and in all areas of work, home, and community life. Yet the voices of women and nonbinary folks are seriously under-represented in discussions around AI. Their experiences matter. This series elevates their voices and shares their practical wisdom for people of all genders.

The first volume in this series was published on March 8, 2026 (International Women's Day) by Six Peas Press. Volume 2 is in writing, for planned release in October 2026, and Volume 3 is in planning for 2027. To learn more about the book series, see "She Writes AI".

"Five Everyday AI & Data Risks: How Smart Systems Affect Our Wetware & Our Daily Lives" is a mini ebook (about 33 pages). It included sample chapters from "Everyday Ethical AI" (above).

It highlighted 5 main AI- and data-related risks that we all need to be aware of — even folks who don't seek out AI systems and tools to use. The ebook's goal was to help folks learn how AI is using us and how we can make better-informed decisions to protect ourselves, our families, and our businesses when we use AI. It has been superseded by the publication of Everyday Ethical AI.

"The Rise of Generative AI and its 21st Century Revolution"

GenAI Ethics and Why They Matter

Karen has been invited to contribute a chapter on AI ethics to the upcoming book, "The Rise of Generative AI and its 21st Century Revolution", to be curated by Dr. Sarika Jain. Stay tuned for more information on publication of this chapter and book.

"Data And AI For Startups"

Just Enough AI and Data: Using AI Wisely and Ethically as an Entrepreneur

Solopreneurs and entrepreneurs are often torn about how best to use AI and data. Most run lean and need to move fast; they can't afford to miss the advantages AI tools can offer.

But they also can't afford to torpedo their fledgling businesses by taking undue IP and legal risks. And many care as deeply about doing good in the world as they do about doing well in their business.

To help startups use AI and data effectively and ethically, Karen has written a chapter on AI and data. However, the other chapters in the original collaborative book for which the chapter was intended were not filled and the book is not moving forward. Stay tuned for more information on publication of this material in another future book.
